Role summary:
The Building Control Support Technician plays a significant role in the effective delivery of the Building Control service through technical assessments, data management, and audit preparation. The postholder acts as the first point of contact for service users, contributing to a fee-earning function within the organisation.
You will ensure compliance with statutory and non-statutory requirements, maintaining accurate records and managing the registration and validation of applications. You will uphold the Council’s reputation for regulatory excellence, working collaboratively with developers, internal teams, and external auditors.
What you’ll do - key responsibilities:
- Maintain and register accurate records of building control applications, inspections and levy assessments.
- Carry out technical assessment and validation of applications, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Building Control legislation.
- Carry out local searches in relation to Building Control records, providing clear and accountable data to the service user.
- Provide technical support to surveyors and senior officers in relation to building control compliance.
- Liaise with developers and agents to ensure timely and complete submission of required information in line with the appropriate legislation.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out in line with the service’s regulatory framework.
What we’re looking for – knowledge, experience & skills:
- Experience working in a building control or a similar regulatory environment.
- Experience maintaining technical records, supporting audit processes and issuing legal documentation as required.
- A strong understanding of Building Control legislation such as the Building Safety Act 2022.
- A strong understanding of technical drawings and specifications.
- Good understanding of local authority systems, application submission types and processing fees and charges.
- A-Level or equivalent education with a commitment to undertaking a further L3 qualification and working towards relevant professional body membership.
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy when processing applications.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to answer technical queries and provide accurate technical information.
Additional Information:
- This is a full-time, permanent, position working 37 hours per week.
- Flexible and hybrid working (1-2 days per week in the office).
- 25 days of annual leave (additional to bank holidays)
