Role Summary
As an Accounts Receivable Officer, you will support the delivery of core financial operations, with a primary focus on accounts receivable operations and income-related processes. You’ll ensure transactions are processed accurately, in line with established procedures and controls, while maintaining high-quality financial records and supporting compliance with governance standards. Working as part of the Accounts Receivable Team, you will play an important role in supporting day-to-day financial activities and ensuring the smooth running of key finance processes across the Council.
What you'll do – Key Responsibilities
- Process income transactions, customer account activities and financial data accurately and on time.
- Respond to finance-related queries from colleagues, customers and other stakeholders.
- Support invoicing, income management and other operational finance processes.
- Help monitor compliance with financial procedures and controls.
- Contribute to improving financial systems, processes and ways of working.
What we're looking for – Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
- Experience working in a finance, accounts or transactional processing environment.
- Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling or related financial processes.
- Understanding of financial controls, compliance and accurate record keeping.
- Strong IT skills and confidence working with financial systems and data.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
About the Team
You'll be joining a supportive and experienced Accounts Receivable Team within Somerset Council's Exchequer Service. The team works closely with colleagues, schools, suppliers and customers to ensure income is managed effectively and financial services are delivered efficiently. With a strong focus on collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement, it's a great environment to develop your skills.
Additional Information
- Permanent, part-time role (30 hours per week)
- 25 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time)
