Role Purpose:
This role supports the effective financial management and income generation of Somerset’s Street Works Permit Scheme. The postholder is responsible for producing accurate financial reports and forecasts, monitoring income and debt, and helping ensure statutory compliance while supporting continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce income forecasts, financial reports and statutory returns for the Street Works Permit Scheme.
- Monitor income, reconcile permit fees and support debt recovery in line with council policies.
- Analyse financial and performance data, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
- Respond to financial queries and resolve billing or payment disputes with works promoters.
- Support reviews, audits and reporting to senior officers and external bodies.
What We’re Looking For – Essential Skills/Experience:
Experience in income collection, financial monitoring or reconciliation, with strong analytical and numerical skills. Confidence working with financial data, producing reports, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
About the Team/Service:
You’ll join the Finance and Procurement service, supporting the Street Works Permit Scheme within Highway and Traffic Management. The team works closely with operational managers and external works promoters to ensure accurate charging, strong financial control and effective service delivery.
Any Additional Information:
- The Salary for the role is Grade 12 ranging from £28,598 to £32,061 per annum
- 28 day’s annual leave (additional to bank holidays).
- Flexible and Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in the Office).

- The role operates within Somerset Council’s Dynamic Working approach and involves regular collaboration with internal services and external organisations.
