Role Summary

As a Lawyer in the Adult Social Care Legal Team, you will manage a varied caseload of Adult Social Care and Education matters. You'll provide legal advice, undertake advocacy and work closely with client services to support effective decision-making and service delivery.

What you'll do – Key Responsibilities          

• Manage a mixed caseload of Adult Social Care and Education legal matters.
• Provide clear, practical legal advice to Council services and stakeholders.
• Prepare and review legal documents and casework.
• Represent the Council in court, tribunals and other hearings.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues, support staff, clients and partner organisations, developing an understanding of service priorities and business needs.

What we're looking for – Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent professional qualification) with relevant post-qualification legal experience.
• Experience of managing legal matters and providing high-quality legal advice.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and keeping up to date with relevant legal practice and legislation.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to influence, advise and work effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Experience of handling complex issues, balancing legal risk with practical solutions.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to deadlines.

About the Team

The Adult Social Care Legal Team provides specialist legal support across Adult Social Care and Education services. We are a supportive and collaborative team that works closely with colleagues across the Council, sharing specialist knowledge and providing opportunities for professional growth and development.

Additional Information

• Permanent, full-time role (37 hours per week).
• 30 days' annual leave, plus Bank Holidays.
• Flexible and hybrid working arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance.

• Relocation package up to £8,000 for those moving to Somerset.
• Grade 9 salary of £41,771 - £46,142 per annum.
