- This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week, with occasional requirements for evening or weekend work to meet project deadlines or attend community events.
- Flexible and hybrid working (1-2 days per week in the office).
- 30 days of annual leave (additional to bank holidays)
Role summary
You’ll be responsible for leading investigations into antisocial behaviour across the County. You will be playing a central role in the effective delivery of the community safety service.
You’ll be working with homeowners, private landlords and tenants, looking to reduce harm on communities through effective enforcement. You will do this by coordinating multiagency responses to complex cases, progressing matters through civil interventions, and promoting community-based resolutions.
Using your specialist expertise, you will provide advice and operational support to ensure statutory duties are fulfilled. You’ll be the first point of escalation for the community safety team, offering supervision, mentoring and guidance.
What you’ll do - key responsibilities
- Lead high risk and complex Antisocial Behaviour cases, ensuring rapid safeguarding actions and coordinated responses.
- Manage and progress a specialist ASB caseload.
- Act as the first point of escalation for Community Safety Officers, providing expert advice, guidance and support.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, statutory duties and enforcement processes.
- Lead and maintain effective multi-agency working, representing the Council in professional networks.
- Monitor team performance and maintain accurate reporting.
What we’re looking for – knowledge, experience & skills
Essential
- Demonstrable knowledge of community safety legislation and policy at a national to local level.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ASB legislation both Civil and Criminal.
- Ability to present complex information and reports in a concise and clear manner either orally or in writing.
- Understanding of the essential nature of partnership working.
- Knowledge of data analysis and reporting techniques.
- Familiarity with local government operations and regulations.
- Proven experience in working in partnership with a range of agencies.
- Proven experience in managing complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation plans.
- Experience of evaluating programmes.
- Experience of commissioning services and monitoring their performance against a robust framework.
- At least 2 years’ experience working in anti-social behaviour or a closely linked field.
- Working knowledge of ASB powers and procedures.
- Experience of preparing case files and cases for court, presenting evidence where necessary.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a community safety related subject or equivalent experience.
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using project management software and tools.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
Desirable
- Understanding of systems and processes in Somerset designed to safeguard and keep people in the community safe.
- Understanding of the council’s commissioning and procurement systems.
- Understanding of the role of prevention in promoting community safety.
