We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Guitar, Ukulele, and/or Percussion (world and drum kit) teacher to deliver Classroom Instrumental Learning (CIL) and progression lessons as part of a dynamic and forward-thinking service.
You’ll be part of a supportive, professional team focused on widening access to music and nurturing young talent. The service works closely with schools to deliver inclusive and inspiring music provision.
Role Summary:
We’re looking for a skilled and enthusiastic music tutor to deliver Whole Class Ensemble Tuition across Somerset schools. You’ll inspire pupils through engaging music lessons and support their musical progress, both in and beyond the classroom. This role involves working closely with schools and the wider Somerset Music team.
What You’ll do - Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver whole class ensemble music lessons in schools across Somerset.
- Plan and assess lessons to support pupils’ musical development.
- Work with schools to encourage participation in performances and music activities.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with Somerset Music staff.
- Attend required meetings, training and INSET, and engage with line management and performance review processes.
- Promote high standards of teaching, learning and safeguarding practice.
What We’re Looking For – Essential Skills/Experience:
Essential
- Classroom teaching experience (ECT teachers welcome)
- Experience of delivering whole class ensemble tuition
- High level of expertise on a main instrument/voice or family of instruments
- Ability to plan and deliver whole class music lessons
- Strong ICT skills
- High level of organisational skills and ability to manage own workload
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Ability to build and sustain professional working relationships based on trust, respect, equality and diversity
- Ability to communicate effectively in fluent English
Desirable
- Experience of delivering individual and small group tuition relevant to the specialism
- Expertise in additional instruments or vocal specialisms
Additional Information:
- The Salary for this role is TMS 1-6, based on qualifications and experience.
- Permanent, term-time only position (39 weeks per year).
- Working days are estimated at 3 - 5 days per week, and will be agreed closer to the start of the contract (based on teaching requirements). Travel time, travel expenses, and PPA time are paid.
- Post is countywide and subject to DBS clearance.
- Annual Leave for this post is in accordance with nationally agreed Teachers Pay and Conditions.
